the pleasant and endearing sound of birds chirping from their nests cut through the silence of the forest. wind whipped through the canopies of tall trees, foretelling a storm that would arrive later in the evening. although it was warm out, the park was empty aside from a lone girl who held her head high into the air with her eyes closed, letting the breeze sting her skin and paint her cheeks a light pink. it seemed that the long winter was over at last. all the ice and snow had melted and given way to green grasses and budding crocuses. the dead silence of the cold months was now replaced with the sound of bickering finches, the pattering of rain, and the hurried footsteps of happy children. spring was this girl's favorite season. she adored everything about it. it was time when everything burst into life. she felt more alive herself when nature's pulse returned.
eri opened her rusty brown eyes slowly and grinned. it was a wonderful day today. the sun was perched way up high and not a cloud stood idle in the sky. she was thankful that there didn't seem to be anyone in the park today. she loved animals, but humans were a whole different ball of wax. they're dirty and far too sly. everyday, they easily betray their own friends - even their own family members! she'd been alive long enough to know that there was nothing she could do to pull them out of the abyss that is their society! of course, there were some who were worthy of her company. but they came very few and far between. as a goddess, she instructed her loyal attendants to steer clear of them. she also said that if they were ever approached by one who harbored some sort of malicious intent, they should be destroyed as quickly and cleanly as possible ❤! this was just her personal philosophy. she believed it worked well, for the most part.
the petite girl had decided that today, she would take a look around her territory. the city was nothing for her to worry about. but this park, most of which was unexplored, was a bit concerning. she felt like a bit of a slacker. what if the other gods were super diligent? she didn't know exactly who they were, as she had just recently come into this position. she couldn't let herself be an embarrassment!
she stomped forward towards the main park trail - the one that most of the citizens of the city regarded as 'cursed'. they say that anyone who ventures to the end of the trail won't ever make it back. she scoffed, tossing her pink hair over her shoulder. she didn't know of anyone who lived here. perhaps it was just the missing person's own stupidity, hmm~? she thought rather scathingly, and trotted down the trail fearlessly. she didn't anything to be afraid of. anyone who dared to defy her was as good as dead.

she was about as graceful as a decapitated chicken, racing around with nothing in order. her short pixie cut was a nest of dead winter leaves and her sunny locks were clinging to the side of her face due to early dawn mist. her skin was the color of the winter frost that just recently evaporated from the warm ground and was covered in small goosebumps. she wore a slim fit t-shirt that exaggerated her lack of muscles or fat. her legs were also fairly unhealthy looking but she seemed capable of running quite quickly. it was an unhealthy image of a very stressed teenage girl who currently was jogging through a dangerous, haunted trail.
now if she was normal, this would be the typical damsel in distress situation that typical wimpy mary-sues get into. however, cho ebisawa was very far from being either of those. trained from childhood on self-defense and hunting demons, she was fully capable of kicking ass or fleeing to safety on her own. her family was from well known clan of hunters, who devoted their lives to saving the common folk of jukyo. it was a huge responsibility but it use to be a title of great honor and strength. this all changed when her older brother sho died, and her family of 12 siblings all fell apart. it was bestowed upon the eldest daughter of the family, cho, to keep them together through their grief and to bring back fear into demons's lack of hearts.
so, that's how she came upon running down yukoku park, looking for her younger sibling who was rumored to be drunkily wandering around around there. harsh punishments were required and it was to the utmost importance that he be found at once. she was having the worst of luck and was starting to have what could be called a minor panic attack. after running down what seems like ever single path in the whole gigantic park, she finally fell upon what was rumored to be a very demon prone path. most hunters knew better than to just run in there by themselves; sadly cho wasn't in the best of moods and charged in without any second thought. she was about as rash and hasty as her siblings who she was always trying to keep track of.
with twin daggers hanging from her finger tips, she attempted to stay on full alert for danger. she wasn't very strong at all, but she had speed on her side. one strong attack though, and she would be dead in a milli-second. no pressure for one who is already having a panic attack, right?

from what eri could see, this trail wasn't cursed in the least. sure, demons seemed to be in a high concentration in the forest, but that was true most of the time. lower level demons tended to stick to the wilderness, since most of them didn't have a chance at bringing anything but a squirrel down. this could create some feelings of dread in humans. she still wasn't sure about the story about the end of the trail. she'd just have to walk down there herself to figure it out. whatever it was, she probably wouldn't do anything about it. it wasn't her place to keep people safe. if they didn't listen to the rumors, then it's their own fault. and who was she to deny one of her kin his meals? she snickered, walking forward with a spring in her step.
travel would be easier if she wasn't stuck in her slow, two-legged form. flying high up in the sky would make it easier to sight strange things that laid below, as well. she let out an exuberant sigh and prepared to let herself slip back into her true form; an unnaturally large white bird. the girl always felt a sense of excitement right before doing so. she was about to experience real freedom. she could do what she wanted and soar through the skies like she had done unabashedly years before, before humans even inhabited the island. those were the days. how she wished she could return to them.
just as she was beginning, she heard a rustling sound. it was steady and loud, and coming in her direction. she grimaced, regrettably putting off her desire for now. what could it be? a wild creature, perhaps? it seemed to be following the path that she currently was on. people didn't frequent this trail, and they certainly wouldn't be going out for a run on it, normally. confused, eri looked in the direction of the sound, waiting for it's source to reveal itself. she was not looking for fight on such a grand day.
the being that created the sound emerged for more quickly than she had imagined. eri's eyes widened as some girl, who held daggers and was running like hell, seemed to materialize in front of her. her rusty eyes widened and she nimbly stepped to the side to avoid collision on the narrow path. this skinny girl who appeared didn't seem to be normal. or, eri's concept of normal. she didn't know much about what was strange, what was acceptable and the like. but judging by the daggers held within her hands, she was either a hunter or a lunatic. she couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed. here she was, strolling innocently down an untraveled trail and someone comes barreling at her with knives. that's about as rude as you can get.
now, how would a person normally react in situation like this? would this girl even notice her presence? just in case, she stared in her direction. "that's dangerous. is it that hard to watch where you're going?" eri said, loudly and blandly.

maybe this won't be happening if cho would just pay attention to where she was going. instead of nearly running straight into someone blocking her path, giving her a harsh glare. they were about the same size, maybe age even. something seemed very off about her though. normal people didn't wander this part of the park so casually, unless they were hunters or a demon themselves.
the girl was now only a few feet away from her, when she yelled something in cho's direction, but it didn't really register to listen until after she said something about watching where you're going. which would be good advice if cho was caring about not running into anything. sadly, one of the deeming qualities of this young lass was that she was nearly legally insane. it was not all that uncommon occurrence to be running through the woods, all by herself, with no care for who got in her way. which, there was clearly someone attempting to stop her at the very moment. a normal person would attempt to have a conversation or try to look a bit less like a lunatic. however, obviously cho was the dark grey crayon in the coloring box and had a hovering storm cloud above her blonde, damaged hair. in other words, she was in a bad mood and could give less of a shit if she looked like a psychopath.
the most logical answer to this situation was that chances were this was indeed not a person in her way, and it was a slightly pissed off demon. so just was cho was beginning to slow down, she changed her mind and decided to speed up toward the lady and positioned herself to strike her. worse comes to worse, she could possibly hit someone not vital if it was a human. it was a risk she was willing to take at this point because somewhere out there was her drunk, defenseless sibling. "Move out of the fucking way." she said with a harse tone, her voice sharp pitched and slightly lisped.
